Is plastering a DIY task?
Plastering generally required a skilled tradesman if it’s a big job, you are likely to need to hire a professional for any large plastering tasks. Competent DIYers could attempt a small plastering job if they feel they can do so.
The skills that a plasterer holds are learned over years of practice and specialist courses but there are some aspects of plastering that can be learned quickly. We have listed some of the tasks that a competent DIY person could attempt.
1. Applying plasterboard to a wooden frame, ceiling, or stud wall with screws or nails.
2. Applying plasterboard using plasterboard adhesive commonly known as dot and dab or dry lining.
3. Skimming or re-skimming small surface areas.
Although these tasks generally can be taken on by competent DIYers you should consider the finish. The standard of finish isn’t likely to be as professional, and if you do mess the task up it could cost you more to get it fixed. It is always recommended that you should hire a professional for a plastering job.
