How to choose a trusted tradesman?

When it comes to finding a tradesman for a particular building job, finding a company that you can trust can be the biggest hurdle. From bricklaying, plumbing, electrician to architecture, finding someone that will do a good quality job at a sensible price can sometimes be a challenge. We have compiled a list of tips to help you make a wise choice when it comes to hiring a trusted construction worker.

Traders licence- Check they have a valid trade licence, and also check this against their driving licence, checking all the details match. It isn’t unheard of for a dodgy tradesman to use the licence of someone else.

Insurance- Does the trader/ company have insurance cover for the time doing the job? They should, and this should be valid for the entire job they are doing.

Reviews- It is so easy these days to check out company/ traders reviews online, a simple search should show you current reviews. Read through the good a bad and make a decision if choosing this tradesman is worth the risk.

Detailed quote- When the trader has accessed the job required to be completed, they should provide you with a quote for the finished project. This quote should contain details and a breakdown of costs involved, both parts and labour. Agreeing on a verbal price can become a big mistake, should the trader decide to add in any extra hidden costs along the way.

Payment- Make sure you are able to pay part of the final bill, and complete the remaining payment on completion of the project. If you are not satisfied with the completed work, you must inform the company and only make the final bill payment once you are 100% happy with the work carried out.

So if you have a building project that requires a tradesman, then following these simple tips will help you to make an informed decision.
